Our Structure
The JHTA is governed by its Council (Board of Directors) which is elected annually and comprises Active and Allied members from the six area chapters of the Association, namely: Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay, Port Antonio, Kingston and the South Coast. A President and four Vice Presidents who are also elected annually head the Council.

President
Robin Russell has served in various capacities ranging from education to the tourism sector. He is currently the General Manager and Director of Deja Resort located in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
He boasts almost 30 years of combined experience in the tourism industry and began his career as Chairman of the Montego Bay Metro Bus Company followed by being appointed the General Manager at the Pier One Restaurant. He was also the owner of Robin’s Prime Steakhouse at the Altamont West Hotel.
For the last two decades, Robin has also served as the Security Manager for Sumfest Productions. He was a JHTA first vice president in 2020 as well as Area Chair for the Montego Bay Chapter prior. He assumed office as JHTA President in October 2022.

Christopher Jarrett, CEO and Managing Director of Altamont Hotels, started his eventual journey into the hospitality industry, with an unlikely degree in Engineering Technology and later on, an MBA and along the way, gained certification as a chef and is also a certified and licensed lifeguard. He has worked from the ground up in his family owned and operated hotel business starting with Altamont Court hotel in Kingston and later adding Altamont West on Montego Bay’s “Hip Strip”.
He is a Director of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, presently serving in the capacity of Honorary Secretary and is Chairman of the JHTA Kingston Chapter, Co-Chair of Kingston City Marathon (notably the first internationally certified marathon course in Kingston) and serves on the Board of Directors of TPDCo.
Chris is married to Nicole and together they have two daughters.

Ms. Vana Taylor has worked in the Tourism Industry for many years and has held several management positions. In 1983 she started her first company, Sunflower Villas which she still operates to date and also manages and operates Fisherman’s Point and Skycastles in Ocho Rios.
She has been a Council Member of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association for several years and Area Chairman for the Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay Chapter. She has served as 3rd and 4th Vice President of the Association for the past five years and serves as Chairman of the Allied and Product and Energy Committees.
Ms. Taylor has a wealth of experience in the Hospitality Industry and currently serves as the Chairman of the Jamaica Association of Villas Apartments. This Association has been representing the Tourism sector for over fifty years.
Over the years at various times she has been a member of several boards and has chaired several committees. She is presently a board member of the Tourism Product Development Company and chairs the Product Quality/Tourism Training Sub-Committee, and Second Vice president of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Taylor is a devoted Catholic and Lay Leader, has received a papal award in October 2009 for service to the Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica, a Justice of the Peace and received a Badge of Honour from the Government in 2001 for her services to the Community and Tourism.

Karen Lanigan is a highly experienced professional in the hospitality industry with over 35 years of experience. She has a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, which she obtained from an accredited institution.
Throughout her career, Karen has held various management positions in the hotel industry, where she has gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field. She has also served on the Management Board of the Savanna-la-mar Hospital, where she has contributed her skills and expertise to help improve the hospital’s operations.
Karen is also a Justice of the Peace for Jamaica. She is also an active member of the JHTA and is the Chapter Chair for Negril and overseas Reggae Marathon planning committee, where she serves as the chairperson.
As an avid traveller herself, Karen understands the importance of providing excellent hospitality and making guests feel welcome.
Karen served as General Manager at Sea Splash Resort from 1993-1997. Since 1998 to present day, she has been with the Couples Resorts serving in the capacities of Executive Assistant Manager (Couples Negril – 1998-1999), Operations Manager (Couples Swept Away – 1999-2003) and General Manager (Couples Negril – 2003-Present).

Kyle Mais wears many hats. He is best known for his ten-year leadership of the Jamaica Inn, where he is currently the companies Managing Director of this, one of the Caribbean’s leading luxury boutique hotels located in Ocho Rios. Mais brings to the table over two decades of extensive hospitality experience in all aspects of both large and small resort and spa operations.
An advocated for sustainability, he believes strongly in investing in people first and foremost and “green” or alternative energy technologies and best practices. By doing so, Mais has been successful in reducing both operational overheads and the carbon footprint of properties he has managed while providing exceptional service and offerings.
As a Director of the hotel’s philanthropic arm, The Jamaica Inn foundation, he works to support the local community by investing in projects that focus on education, community, and the environment. Driven by the growing concerns surrounding global warming and other environmental threats, he was instrumental in the establishing of the White River Fish Sanctuary (WRFS) where he currently serves as a Director. The WRFS is a community-based partnership designed to help revive the local fisherfolks lively hoods and protect one of Jamaica’s biggest natural resources.
Always willing to serve, Mais is very involved with the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association where he is a Vice President and the Chairman of the Sustainability Committee. His experience has also led him to be appointed Chairman of CAST, the Sustainability arm of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
Mais is a graduate of Bishops University in Quebec, Canada where he earned an undergraduate degree in Economics, followed by an MBA from Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. A health and wellness junky, Mais is an avid diver and swimmer who loves to indulge in Spa and other wellness therapies. He is the proud father of four AMAISING children.

Camille Needham
Mrs. Camille Needham has headed the executive of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) since her return from the United Kingdom in 1983. The JHTA is one of Jamaica’s most prominent and influential national trade associations and represents the largest foreign exchange earner.
While in Britain, Mrs Needham was Assistant to the Managing Director of the London-based Caribtours Limited where she was responsible for general administration and staff supervision, hotel rate-negotiation, and liaison with airlines, hotels and ground-handling agents. Her responsibilities included inspection visits to the Caribbean.
Immediately prior to leaving Jamaica in 1981, she was Assistant General Manager (i/c product) of the JHTA. In the 1970s, Mrs Needham was an administrator with the Ministry of Education, ultimately as head of the Conditions of Service Section of the School Services Division.
Camille Needham holds a BA General Degree (Hons) from the University of the West Indies and a Certificate in Training Techniques from the Royal Institute of Public Administration in London. Her achievements in association management have been recognized by the Caribbean Hotel Association (now Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association) which selected her as Association Executive of the Year (Large Asscn Category) for 2002.
She chairs the Advisory Committee for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Technology and is on the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust. She is also an ex-officio member of several tourism-related committees and was a member of the Steering Committee for Jamaica’s Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development. She was a three-term President of the Kingston Club of Skal International, the travel industry’s principal worldwide club, from 2006-08.
Mrs Needham has served on the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives. At various times she has been a member of the boards of Tourism Action Plan Limited, Tourism Product Development Company, the National Drug Abuse Fundraising Trust, the Jamaica Family Planning Association and the Kingston and St. Andrew Branch of the Jamaica Red Cross Society.
Her leisure interests include Jamaican theatre, having some years ago completed a three-year certificate course in acting techniques at the Jamaica National School of Drama. She enjoys contemporary popular music and romantic novels. Camille Needham lives in Kingston with her husband Merrick (a logistics and protocol consultant) and their son.

Hotel Worker of the Year
The primary basis for selection is performance during the previous calendar year; however the worker's overall service records, both in the tourist industry and in his/her local community, is also taken into account. Cash and other prizes are given.

Allied Member of the Year Award
The JHTA Allied Member of the Year Award is open to JHTA Allied Members, who have made significant contribution to the JHTA and to the promotion and development of tourism. Candidates for this award are evaluated taking into consideration their:
- Participation/ attendance at JHTA meetings
- Participation in JHTA Events and activities
- Support for charity ventures being undertaken by the JHTA
- Advocacy on tourism related issues
- Promotion of tourism
The Abe Issa Award For Excellence
The Abe Issa Award for Excellence honours individuals, groups and entities who have contributed significantly to the tourism industry by promoting the reputation and image of Jamaica as a tourist destination. Promotion may be direct, by persons working in the industry, or indirect, by persons whose performance in any field, brings honour, fame and glory to our country. The award recipient must be of unquestionable integrity, with high ethical standards.
Hotelier of the Year
The primary basis for selection is demonstrated achievements in hotel operations in the previous year; however the hotelier's achievements in community affairs are also be taken into account. All member hoteliers who fall in the following categories are eligible for nomination:

Hotel Manager/Supervisor of the Year
This award is open to departmental heads in member properties. The primary basis for selection will be demonstrated competence in the supervision of his/her department; however, the manager's/supervisor's overall service record and involvement in the affairs of his/her local community will also be taken into account.
Tourism Employee of the Year
The primary basis for selection will be performance during the previous year; however the employee's overall service record, both in the tourist industry and in his/her local community, will also be taken into account. All employees of JHTA member organizations in the following categories are eligible for nomination as the Tourism Employee of the Year:

Recipients of this award must be outstanding individuals of unquestionable integrity and high ethical standards
Environmental Sustainability Award
This award is open to JHTA members that demonstrate conviction and leadership in protecting the environment and promoting environmentally sustainable practices. The company must have implemented programmes or projects that show innovation and enterprise in sustainable environmental management including:
- Implementing sustainable recycling and waste management systems
- Protecting human health and the environment
- Promoting increased awareness of environmental issues within their business
- Implementing innovative sustainable solutions to address critical environmental challenges
- Practicing efficient use of natural resources
- Using alternative/ renewable energy
- Making efforts to involve customers and staff in environmental protection
