Executive Management

Executive Director

Camille Needham

Mrs. Camille Needham has headed the executive of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) since her return from the United Kingdom in 1983. The JHTA is one of Jamaica’s most prominent and influential national trade associations and represents the largest foreign exchange earner.

While in Britain, Mrs Needham was Assistant to the Managing Director of the London-based Caribtours Limited where she was responsible for general administration and staff supervision, hotel rate-negotiation, and liaison with airlines, hotels and ground-handling agents. Her responsibilities included inspection visits to the Caribbean.

Immediately prior to leaving Jamaica in 1981, she was Assistant General Manager (i/c product) of the JHTA. In the 1970s, Mrs Needham was an administrator with the Ministry of Education, ultimately as head of the Conditions of Service Section of the School Services Division.

Camille Needham holds a BA General Degree (Hons) from the University of the West Indies and a Certificate in Training Techniques from the Royal Institute of Public Administration in London. Her achievements in association management have been recognized by the Caribbean Hotel Association (now Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association) which selected her as Association Executive of the Year (Large Asscn Category) for 2002.

She chairs the Advisory Committee for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Technology and is on the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust. She is also an ex-officio member of several tourism-related committees and was a member of the Steering Committee for Jamaica’s Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development. She was a three-term President of the Kingston Club of Skal International, the travel industry’s principal worldwide club, from 2006-08.

Mrs Needham has served on the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives. At various times she has been a member of the boards of Tourism Action Plan Limited, Tourism Product Development Company, the National Drug Abuse Fundraising Trust, the Jamaica Family Planning Association and the Kingston and St. Andrew Branch of the Jamaica Red Cross Society.

Her leisure interests include Jamaican theatre, having some years ago completed a three-year certificate course in acting techniques at the Jamaica National School of Drama. She enjoys contemporary popular music and romantic novels. Camille Needham lives in Kingston with her husband Merrick (a logistics and protocol consultant) and their son.
